Ingredients:
1 puff pastry (most puff pastries come in a set of 2)
Strawberry jam
Nutella
Pastry Cream:
1 cup whole milk
3/4 tablespoon pure vanilla extract (without alcohol)
2 large egg yolks
1/5 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
What to do…
1. Thaw puff pastry on parchment paper on a baking pan. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
2. Pastry cream: In a saucepan, boil the milk.
3. Once boiled, remove from heat. Add vanilla and stir.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until light yellow in color. While whisking, pour in milk slowly. Whisk until well blended.
5. Pour mixture back in saucepan, and return to medium-high heat. Whisk continuously until the mixture thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
6. Once thick, remove from heat. Add butter. Transfer to another bowl.
7. Refrigerate pastry cream for about 15-20 minutes.
8. Once puff pastry has thawed, cut into three vertical rectangles. Most puff pastries come pre-folded into three parts. Cut along the folded lines.
9. Place in oven for about ten minutes or until golden brown.
10. Take out of the oven and allow it to cool for about 5-7 minutes.
11. Once cooled, split each rectangle in half vertically. You should now have 6 vertical rectangular puff pastries.
12. On the first layer, spread the pastry cream. Top with a layer of puff pastry.
13. Spread strawberry jam on the second layer. Top with puff pastry.
14. Repeat steps 12 and 13 until all layers are completed.
15. Top with swirls of nutella.
