This deep dish pizza is a nice change from your usual pizza. It's filling, delicious, and not too hard to make. The recipe for the dough is from here with a few changes.
Ingredients:
Pizza Dough
1 1/2 cups flour (more if your dough is too sticky)
1 tsp. yeast
1 tsp. Kosher salt
1 tsp. Sugar
3 tablespoons olive oil
6 tbsp. warm water
Mozzarella Cheese
any type of pasta sauce (preferably with some spices i.e basil, garlic, onion)
any desired 'toppings'
What to do...
1. Mix warm water and yeast.
2. Mix the flour, salt, and sugar.
3. Add yeast mixture. Using a stand mixer or your hands, mix it all forming a ball.
4. Add the oil and continue mixing. Your dough should now be a cohesive ball. Add more water if the mixture is too dry.
5. Knead for 1-2 minutes, but not for too long. Let rise for at least an hour, but longer is better.
6. Once it has risen, roll it out with a rolling pin until it is 1/4 of an inch thick (thicker for a thicker crust).
7. Pre-heat the oven to 425 degrees. Place the rolled out dough in a deep dish or pie pan. Spread it all over the bottom and on the edges. The dough should reach the very top of the pan.
8. Put a thick layer of mozzarella cheese.
9. Add in any desired topics.
10. Pour the sauce on top. It should cover the cheese and toppings completely.
11. Put in the oven for 20-30 minutes. You can tell it's done when the crust is a golden brown and the sauce looks almost dry.
